Tornado drills here April 24April 22, 2008 - 2:44pm — Mathias BadenSevere Weather Awareness Week takes place April 21-25 this year, with the statewide tornado drills next Thursday. At 1:45 p.m. Thursday, the National Weather Service will issue a simulated tornado warning, and outdoor warning sirens will be activated. At 6:55 p.m., a second drill will take place in Scott County for families and second-shift workers. Jordan sophomore Erin Zahler and the rest of the Jordan High School golf team will have to wait just a bit longer for their first match after Monday’s snowstorm. The schools will be closing today at 1 p.m. today. Jordan is forecasted to receive as many as 8 inches of snow through early tomorrow morning. The entire Twin Cities metro area is under a heavy snow warning through tonight. While Jordan’s music students didn’t leave for their Florida trip until earlier this morning, most of the students were dressed for a tropical getaway during their send-off concert at the high school last night. Snow is falling right now and has been for most of this morning. The National Weather Service has been predicting 3 to 5 inches of snow during the day today and chances of more snow during each of the following two days. In Jordan, at least 2 inches has already fallen. Snow will be deeper in southern and southwestern Minnesota, according to radio reports.
