I don’t think I ever want to see this side of Charles Barkley: http://www.philly.com/dailynews/columnists/dan_gross/20080820_Dan_Gross_....
Last week, I found out that my grandma fished for bullheads in Jordan's Mill Pond. This was a long time ago.
Now, there are no bullheads -- catfish -- in the Mill Pond. It's been drained, refilled naturally, and sunfish and other species have been stocked in the water.
But back in the day, my grandmother made the trek from the Twin Cities down to Jordan to visit a friend. They went fishing in the Mill Pond. Apparently, their catch was great that day.
She went home and to bed, and everything was great. She'd had a restful day and brought home six catfish.
In the last day or so, local artist Maureen Carlson, other members of the Jordan Area Chamber of Commerce, and I have been exchanging e-mails about this summer's Jordan Art Festival.
This blog is not about the festival, but about the e-mails from Carlson. I took note of what I call a tagline -- it tells you who the e-mailer is, their contact information, and sometimes includes a quote or some other kind of words by which to live.
Carlson's tagline says, after her contact information: "It simply wouldn't be an adventure worth having if there weren't any dragons."
At a recent party, I learned a lesson for us all. So take my advice: Don't leave the camera unattended.
Keep an eye on your video camera, and don't leave your camera within reach of small children, animals, or -- especially -- goofballs use it.
Or else this is what they will do:
While I was on vacation, I broke my watch.
All the growth we've experienced in the past few years got me thinking - are we losing that small-town feeling?
