Man charged for allegedly torturing dog (and other happenings in and around New Prague)April 26, 2008 - 1:15am — Mathias BadenHere's what's been going on in and around New Prague lately, according to the New Prague Times: - About a week ago, Rice County District Court charged Anton Steven Metzenhuber, 34, of New Prague with torture of an animal in the death of this neighbor's dog. Buddy, a miniature beagle, had been missing since April 6 and was found in a channel between Cody-Phelps Lake near Lonsdale. A concrete block was tied to the animal. Two weeks ago, the Times reported that the dog was mysteriously drowned and asked for readers' help in solving the case. City wins judgment against St. John'sApril 21, 2008 - 10:05pm — Mathias BadenThe city of Jordan won its case against St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. A judge favored the city, which is trying to widen the road at the intersection of highways 21 and 282, after the church's lawyer argued that church land cannot be taken in this instance, City Attorney Annette Margarit said. Mysterious dog drowning (and other happenings in and around New Prague)April 20, 2008 - 2:00pm — Mathias BadenHere's what's been going on in and around New Prague lately, according to the New Prague Times: - Police are seeking information about the what appears to be the drowning death of a dog that went missing from New Prague earlier this month. Last weekend, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources found a beagle submerged in a channel near Cody-Phelps Lake in Rice County, southeast of New Prague. These birds are abundant from Hastings all the way to the Iowa border. And Trumpeter Swans can be seen at Mississippi Drive Park in Monticello. At the time of this report, there were 1,200 swans, with numbers to potentially increase to 1,500. The following is a list of recent, significant sightings: An Ivory gull was seen in Duluth on Jan. 7, but it departed in the afternoon and has not been seen since.
