Nominate people with warm hearts by tomorrow

The Jordan Independent is looking for people about whom to write in its annual “warm hearts” features.

Identifying a warm heart is simple – they are the people who help out someone else. They are our neighbors, fellow church members, youth coaches, firefighters, parent volunteers, or dear friends.

These are people who make Jordan what it is – a small town and proud of it. They are people who care.

Nominees for the warm hearts feature preferably should be living, working or volunteering in the Jordan area. They are not paid for their warmhearted acts.

Last year's warm hearts included:

- Char and Howard Senske, who have spent good and bad times with their next-door neighbors, the Guenthers. They also are examples of volunteers who keep a small town running.

- Mary Pekarna, a volunteer for St. John the Baptist Catholic School in Jordan and a smiling face at Jordan Middle School.

- Michael Pieper, who has shoveled or snow blown the driveway owned by his neighbors, the Sheehans, for years. He said his neighbors take care of each other.

- Debby Anderson, Deb Barker, and Jill Weisser, who donate their time helping the Braatz family with their three children, all of whom were younger than age 2.

The Senskes, Pekarna, Pieper, Anderson, Barker and Weisser are outstanding examples of people who give of their time and talents for the people about whom they care. They are compassionate members of Jordan.

The paper will be taking warm heart nominations through Dec. 15, hoping to publicly thank a few of the people who compassionately and selflessly gave to you. Certainly, there are more than a few. The Independent staff can’t possibly know them all.

The features are scheduled to appear in the paper on Dec. 21 or later.

To make a nomination, call the Independent office at 952-492-2224, send a fax to 952-492-2231, mail to 109 Rice St. S., Jordan MN 55352, e-mail editor@jordannews.com [1] or comment in the forum at www.jordannews.com/node/976 [1].

(Don’t forget to include a name, address and phone number for the nominees. We also want to know why you think your nominee is warmhearted.)
