Yesterday, Chris Olson of Spring Lake Township filed in the race for a Scott County Board seat that will be left vacant by Commissioner Bob Vogel.

Vogel announced his intention not to run for re-election. He is the chairman of the board. Tom Wolf of Savage filed on July 1 for election in Commissioner District 2, which includes Spring Lake Township. Wolf lost to Vogel in the last election for that seat. To see the story about Vogel, go to www.jordannews.com/news/county-politics/vogel-not-seek-re-election-8079 [1].

Also on July 8, state Rep. Paul Kohls, R-Victoria, filed for re-election to the Minnesota House of Representatives District 34A, which includes St. Lawrence Township. Kohls was elected in 2002 and is serving his third term in office.

As of Wednesday morning, a challenger had not yet filed for office, according to the Minnesota secretary of state's Web site.

Also on July 8, Tim Rud, the three-term mayor of Lonsdale, filed for office in Minnesota House of Representatives District 25B. He is a Republican.

Rud will run against state Rep. David Bly, DFL-Northfield, who filed for re-election on July 1. Bly, who has served one two-year term in office, represents a district that includes Helena Township.

Otherwise, little has changed today in the races for other governmental positions representing the city of Jordan or Helena, Sand Creek, St. Lawrence, or Spring Lake townships, according the Minnesota secretary of state’s Web site. Here’s where we’re at:

-Taylor Kristoffe-Jones, DFL-Savage, will run again for the Minnesota House of Representatives District 35B seat held by state Rep. Mark Buesgens, R-Jordan. Kristoffe-Jones, who filed for the election on July 1, lost to Buesgens in the election two years ago.
