On my way to work each day, I usually listen to the radio. Today, I turned it off.
I got uncomfortable when KSTP traffic guy Kenny Olson's described an accident involving a truck and a "short bus." KSTP isn't exactly known for its PCness, but I got the impression that Olson was being insensitive when he called the bus by that name.
In my more immature years, my friends and I would've called the bus ridden by children with mental illnesses by that name. I'm ashamed that we made fun of them. I don't know if Kenny's bus was carrying passengers who had disabilities, but when he called the bus that name, I reacted with children who couldn't help their difficulties in mind.
Olson could've used some better discretion. It was an unfortunate and hurtful choice of words. It cost the station a listener -- at least for today.
Just my 2 cents.
