Nancy Meyer is one of the lucky ones.
The Jordan City Council rarely grants a kennel permit, but it decided that her situation was not likely to disturb neighbors.Meyer, who lives along Hillside Drive, owns two dogs, which is the limit according to city ordinance.
But:
- one of her dogs is 13 years old, Council Member Mike Shaw said;
- it's a special circumstance because she is training a service dog, Mayor Ron Jabs said;
- "it's a noble cause," it's not a permanent situation, and if there are issues, the city can revoke the permit next year, Police Chief Bob Malz said.
Tonight, the council voted 7-0 to grant the $50 permit. Malz said he conducted a records check and found no previous animal complaints Meyer. The council has denied several kennel permit requests during the past year.
