The never-say-die attitude of the Jordan softball team surfaced on Monday afternoon, when they defeated Waconia 7-6.

The Jaguars trailed 6-1 after the first inning but battled back to take the lead in the sixth inning and improved their record to 11-1 on the season.

“This is a very pleasing win,” head coach Bryan Martin said.

Katie Moriarty scored in the first inning to give the Jaguars a 1-0 lead. But in the bottom of the first, Moriarty was hit for six runs on seven hits to fall behind 6-1.

After the disastrous first inning, Moriarty settled down and gave up no more runs on only two more hits.

“She did a great job of adjusting after the first inning,” Martin said.

It wasn’t until the third inning that Jordan started its comeback. In the third, Kelsey Pekarna scored to cut the lead to 6-2.

In the fourth, Moriarty and Sam Pieper scored on RBI by Kelsey Kes and Pekarna.

In the sixth inning, Moriarty, Kes, and Pekarna scored to give Jordan the lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, Waconia’s first two hitters got on base, but Moriarty was able to get out of the jam without a runner getting to third.

Sibley East

On Wednesday, April 30, Jordan defeated Sibley East 7-5.

The Jaguars pounded out nine hits in the victory, and Nikki Shutrop got the victory on the mound.

Shutrop pitched all seven innings, giving up only three earned runs on six hits.

Jordan scored four runs in the second inning with the help of three walks. Jordan scored two more times in the fifth and added another run in the sixth to push their lead to 7-0.

In the seventh, Shutrop ran into some trouble, when she walked four batters and hit another one to let Sibley East back into the game. They scored five runs, but Shutrop got out of the jam to preserve the victory.
