Redoing Park Drive could cost more than $425,000.
The Jordan City Council asked for cost estimates for improvement to Park Drive, which runs alongside the Mill Pond and through Lagoon Park. City Engineer Carol Caron presented three concept plans, each of which included 90-plus paved parking spaces, and the council asked that the design include just a couple fewer parking spaces and a little bit more beach area.
"I'm envisioning that beach space is going to be at a premium," Mayor Ron Jabs said.
Trails through the park will be widened from 6 to 8 feet wide, and near the park entrance, the road will be slightly moved away from the Mill Pond. The white-striped walkway on the road will no longer be necessary.
Estimates of the costs break down like this:
- $274,650 to replace the street and trails, to be paid using reconstruction bonds;
- $107,380 for new curbs and gutters, to be paid using the park dedication fund;
- and $43,800 for storm sewers, to be paid from the storm sewer fund.
The cost of streetlights -- some of which might be replaced, others of which would be newly placed -- were not available in time for Monday night's meeting. The council asked for two estimates so that it could choose to match the park's streetlights with those being placed along Highway 282 or to coordinate styles with the six streetlights already in the park. Matching the streetlights with those that will be placed along the highway would be more expensive, but Xcel has yet to give the price quotes.
The council did not take formal action on the design or its plans and specifications, because Caron said a public hearing might be necessary.
