Here's what's been going on in and around Belle Plaine lately, according to the Belle Plaine Herald:

- Work on a regional training center for public safety personnel could stop if the Minnesota Legislature fails to include money for the operation in its bonding bill this year. Last week, the Scott County Board voted to decrease its request to the legislature from $3.2 million to $1 million. Gov. Tim Pawlenty and the House of Representatives ignored the request, according to the Herald, but the Senate included $1 million for the project in its proposed bonding bill, which is in conference committee.

- The annual business showcase run by the Belle Plaine Chamber of Commerce takes place from 9 a.m. to noon in the high school's south gym.

- A story in the Herald pointed out that the Jordan High School track-and-field finished low in the standings at the annual indoor meet in Mankato. The Hubmen finished sixth and the Jaguars finished last out of eight teams.
