Here's what's been going on in and around New Prague lately, according to the New Prague Times:

- Three superintendent candidates continue to vie for the open position in New Prague's school district. They are: Jerry Kjeergaard, superintendent of the Waconia school district; Craig Menozzi, principal at McGuire School in Lakeville; and Charles Rick, superintendent of St. Louis County Schools. Rick is also an applicant for the soon-to-open superintendent position at Jordan Public Schools. Another candidate for the Jordan position -- Rick Linnell, superintendent in the Pequot Lakes school district -- was dropped from the New Prague interview process last week.

- Three months after an extensive renovation of their home began, the
VanderWerts returned to New Prague. More than $300,000 of work was done
on the century-old property, owned by Blake and Jonathan VanderWert, as
part of the Heroes at Homes project. Jonathan is serving a 15-month
tour of duty with the Minnesota National Guard in Iraq.

- New Prague High School recently claimed two section titles -- in girls hockey and in gymnastics.

- The library in New Prague purchased two tape recorders and cassettes for residents to record their oral histories for a Scott County Historical Society project.

- Tubby Smith, the Minnesota Gophers basketball coach, came to Ridges at Sand Creek golf club on Saturday to speak at a fund-raiser for cancer survivor Jeff Gravon, the New Prague High School varsity basketball coach.
