Cost-saving ideas lacking

Jordan Superintendent Larry Kauzlarich isn’t receiving the help he had hoped for.

Kauzlarich said the ideas for reducing the district’s operating costs have not been coming in from the public like he expected. As it is, Kauzlarich said, most of the suggestions have been raised internally through the administration.

“From the community, I’m getting nothing in the way of suggestions,” Kauzlarich said.

The board passed a motion at its Monday meeting asking its cost-saving committee to meet and offer suggestions on how to reduce the district budget by as much as $500,000. The committee only has six volunteers at this point, Kauzlarich said.

The committee members will be given a list of possible cuts with a dollar amount attached to each cut, Kauzlarich said.

The committee, including board members Dan Buresh, Scott Erickson, and Sheila Bauer, will meet March 17 to begin the process.

While the budget saving process is important, board member Jim Donna said, the superintendent search is more important at this point in time.

Kauzlarich said he is still looking for ideas for cuts from the public – anything and everything will be considered.

The board also postponed discussion on a referendum.
