Making time to read

I don’t always make time to read, but I do always make time to buy books. That’s why I have a shelf full of books that I’ve bought and not yet read, and why the number of those books keeps growing.

It’s like shopping while you’re hungry – it’s never a good idea, and you always end up with more than you really need. The problem is, I’m always hungry for books.

So I decided today that I’m going to make time to read each and every day of the week. A few years ago, I set the goal for myself of reading 52 books in a year. I know that isn’t a realistic goal for me this year, but I can set this simple goal: I will make time to read each night.

My plan is simple – I hope to read for at least 20 minutes a day every day. If I’m hitting this goal with ease, I’ll bump up the time commitment. My hope is that I’ll finally start to make a substantial dent in my list of books to read by actually finishing some of them.

How do you read – in bed, in a favorite chair, in the car? How often do you read? Do you set aside time each week?
