Over 55 grams of cocaine were snagged by Shakopee Police on Nov. 7 with the help of two confidential informants.
Police arrested Roy J. Garza Jr. of Chaska at the Target parking lot in Shakopee after he sold two ounces of cocaine to the informants, according to the complaint filed with the Scott County District Court.
Earlier that day, Shakopee Police Detective John Buetow asked the informants to set up the deal with a man known as “Chundi,” who was later identified as Garza, the complaint said.
The informants were given money to use during the deal and fitted with transmitting bugs prior to meeting Garza, the complaint said. Police also gave them a key word to say when the cocaine was seen.
Agents watched from the parking lot while the informants parked their vehicle and waited for Garza, the complaint said. Garza appeared driving a 1997 Buick Park Avenue with two other males in the car, the complaint said.
Garza walked over to the informants’ car and got in the back seat, the complaint said. Then, the informants gave the key word, and agents arrested Garza. He was taken to the Scott County Jail.
The cocaine and money provided for the deal were recovered from the informants’ car where Garza was sitting, the complaint said.
Police also located the two passengers of Garza’s car inside the Target store, the complaint said. One known juvenile was searched. Police found a green leafy substance weighing about four grams and a marijuana pipe on the juvenile, the complaint said.
Garza was charged with intent to sell a controlled substance in the first degree, according to the complaint. If he is convicted, the felony could result in up to 30 years in prison for Garza. He has no prior convictions.
