The city of Jordan is proposing a 23 percent increase in its tax levy, raising a total of $2.8 million in property taxes.
If the 2008 budget passes as proposed, the city portion of your tax bill will increase:
- by $144.18, or 23 percent, to $758.53, if you are the owner of a house valued at $150,000 this year;
- by $192.25, or 22 percent, to $1,061.03, if you are the owner of a house valued at $200,000 this year;
- by $240.31, or 21 percent, to $1,363.52, if you are the owner of a house valued at $250,000 this year;
- by $288.37, or 21 percent, to $1,666.02, if you are the owner of a house valued at $300,000 this year.
These numbers, provided by Finance Director Tom Nikunen, assume more than an increase in estimated market value for every home. The numbers do not include anything but the city portion of your taxes.
How can you afford higher taxes?
