Chanhassen's 'Joseph' hits the mark

I've always wanted to go to Egypt. See the pyramids, ride a camel, maybe get into a tomb via a tour guide who knows something the others don't.

But I don't want to go there that way -- the way of Joseph in "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." The biblical character Joseph was sold into slavery by his jealously vile brothers, who later deeply regretted their awful decision. Joseph ends up in Egypt -- as the pharaoh's right hand man, nonetheless.

And years later, when his famished brothers come begging for food from him -- although they don't recognize their own brother -- Joseph teaches them a loving lesson.

Chanhassen Dinner Theatres is putting on a stunning production of "Joseph." Another couple, my darling wife, and I saw it last weekend and were impressed by the strong voices, brilliant colors of the costumes, and the comical moments in the musical.

The review in last weekend's Southwest Saturday was right on.

"Joseph" runs through March 15. The box office can be reached at 952-934-1525.
