It's a bad sign when the city starts hiring snowplow drivers.
That means winter is coming.
On Monday, the Jordan City Council hired four part-time street maintenance workers to help the Jordan Public Works Department with snow removal. They are Dan Deutsch, Tim Dols, Ken Lucas, and Richard Riesgraf.
Each part-time worker will receive $17 an hour.
They "all have excellent equipment operating skills and are very knowledgeable," Public Works Director Dave Bendzick said in a memorandum to the council. "It is difficult to find qualified help to be on call all the time and work the tough hours snow removal requires."
The city plows streets, sidewalks, and pathways, along with hauling snow from businesses and churches. They also respond to weather events.
