Yesterday, I captured a volleyball play on video that turned out to be rarer than I thought.

Amanda Dietel and Brittany Chambers combined for a kill. Ho-hum, you might say, since usually -- and by that I mean almost 100 times this weekend -- it goes Dietel to Chambers for the smash.

But not so in this video. It went the opposite way. The Twin Cities metro area's kills leader set up her setter, Jordan's all-time set assist leader, for a big hit from the right side.

Jason Geisel, who keeps the stats, assistant coaches varsity, and coaches junior varsity, said Dietel's mighty spike might have been her first kill, maybe her second. It's the only one he remembers, Geisel said.

Note how Dietel yells for the ball when Chambers sets her up. Dietel knew she was going to spike it? Well, she surprised everyone else. And got teased a little about it later.
