As if we needed another reason to lament the loss of David Ortiz to the Boston Red Sox, the Star Tribune printed a short story last week about Ortiz being the perfect player.

Ortiz is the seventh player to earn a perfect 100 rating in the annual statistical compilation done by Elias Sports Bureau, which uses a formula players and owners negotiated in 1981.

The ranking puts him in the company of Don Mattingly, Cal Ripken, Frank Thomas, Jeff Bagwell, Manny Ramirez, and Albert Pujols.

Twins starting pitcher Johan Santana and first baseman Justin Morneau were tops in the American League at their positions, though not perfect.
