A press release from the Office of the Governor of Minnesota:
In a letter to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and U.S. Ambassador to India David Mulford, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty today asked the U.S. State Department to determine if Essar’s activities in Iran are a potential violation of the Iran Country Sanctions Act.
On Saturday, Pawlenty expressed concern about Essar’s reported connections with Iran. The governor said that if Essar’s business relations with Iran are in violation of U.S. sanctions, he will strongly oppose financial assistance from the state of Minnesota for the project.
