I was talking to a friend last night at Bible study, and he asked me an interesting question. A few of the guys in my small group are in various businesses that have a lot to do with money, and my friend started asking questions about income taxes. His claim was that the taxes taken from our income are both unneeded and unlawful. He came to this conclusion after watching a video online all about the tax. I was a bit skeptical.
I heard his point and it got me thinking about why exactly is our income taxed? A lot of the programs that I know about and report on are funded through property taxes and fees. Where does the money that the government takes out of my paychecks go? I guess I had never really thought about it before.
Here’s a bit of the history of the income tax, according to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Income_tax#United_States
Editor Mathias Baden and Wikipedia also informed me of my right to decide not to pay this voluntary tax. Find out more about that here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tax_protester_arguments.
So what do you say? Does anyone want to help me pay my legal fees so I never have to have my income taxed again?
