Heimatfest activities begin this Friday

This is the schedule for Jordan’s annual city festival, Heimatfest:

FRIDAY, SEPT. 7

  • 5 p.m. to midnight – The classic car and motorcycle cruise will take place in downtown Jordan. The cruise includes food booths, a beer garden, and a street dance with a musical performance by the Castaways.
  • 9 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. – First Chance Fall Dance at Jordan High School, 600 Sunset Drive. The dance is open to seventh- through 12th-grade students.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 8

  • 7:30 a.m. – Registration begins for the Run of the Mill 5K race and Walk of the Mill 2-mile walk. Registration is at Jordan Middle School, 500 Sunset Drive. Registration forms are available at the Jordan Community Education office. Pre-registration for the run is $14. Registration the day of the race is $15.
  • 8:30 a.m. – The volleyball tournament begins at Lagoon Park.
  • 9 a.m. – The Run of the Mill and Walk of the Mill begin from Jordan Middle School, 500 Sunset Drive. The race ends at Lagoon Park, and there will be a shuttle available to transport runners back to the middle school.
  • 9:30 a.m. – Registration for the 1/2-mile Family Fun Run begins at the Minnesota River Valley Special Educational Cooperative (MRVSEC) school, 100 Hope Ave. The walk is from the school to Lagoon Park. Adults run for free. The cost per runner is $14 before the day of the race or $15 on race day. Registration includes a T-shirt. Registration without a T-shirt is $4 for early registration or $5 the day of the run. Strollers are allowed, but no bikes, rollerblades, or pets are allowed.
  • 11 a.m. – The Heimatfest parade begins in downtown Jordan. The parade runs along Varner, Water, and Broadway streets.
  • Noon – Registration begins for the horseshoe tournament in Lagoon Park.
  • Noon to 12:30 p.m. – Registration is open for the Texas Hold ’Em tournament in the bingo tent in Lagoon Park.
  • 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. – The Texas Hold ‘Em tournament runs in the bingo tent in Lagoon Park.
  • 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. – Hermey the Clown will perform in Lagoon Park.
  • 12:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. – The kids fun area in Lagoon Park will be open. The area includes lasso golf, a beanbag toss, and inflatable games and rides.
  • Noon to 3:30 p.m. – The Lounge Cats will perform on the tent stage.
  • 1 p.m. – The winners of a Jordan dollars drawing and the Run/Walk of the Mill and Family Fun Run races will be announced.
  • 1 p.m. – The Wolf Motors and Jaycees Punt, Pass and Kick competition begins on the field of Lagoon Park.
  • 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. – Tug of war registration begins in Lagoon Park.
  • 2 p.m. – The tug of war competition begins in Lagoon Park.
  • 2 p.m. – Mayor Ron Jabs will greet the crowd on the tent stage at Lagoon Park.
  • 2:15 p.m. – The golf chipping contest will be held on the field at Lagoon Park.
  • 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. – The Jordan Jaycees will host bingo in the bingo tent at lagoon park.
  • 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. – An obstacle course for students in third through sixth grades will be open in Lagoon Park.
  • 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. – The Castaways will perform on the tent stage in Lagoon Park.
  • 4 p.m. – Trophy winners from the Heimatfest medallion hunt, the Heimatfest parade, and Jordan dollar drawing winners will be announced.
  • 4 p.m. – The Miss Jordan coronation begins on the tent stage.
  • 5 p.m. – The keg toss contest is open for anyone ages 21 and older on the field of Lagoon park.
  • 5 p.m. – A disc dogs demonstration will be held on the field of Lagoon Park.
  • 5:30 p.m. – Winners of Jordan dollar drawings will be announced.
  • 7:30 p.m. – Winners of the volleyball tournament and Jordan dollars drawings will be announced.
  • 8 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. – Schleprock will perform on the tent stage.
  • 8:30 p.m. – Park Drive closes for fireworks.
  • 9 p.m. – The Heimatfest fireworks finale will take place over the Mill Pond in Lagoon Park.
  • 11:30 p.m. – Lagoon Park closes.
