Last year, I went to the Scott Carver Threshers festival in St. Lawrence Township, near Jordan, and was impressed.
Besides all of the old cars and the tractor parade -- obvious attractions -- I especially enjoyed browsing through the historic village that the Threshers had moved to the site, which is next to the fairgrounds.
The historic village includes:
- an 1850 log house;
- an operating blacksmith shop;
- an operating print shop, complete with a printing press;
- a 1962 round-roof barn (yes, it contains animals);
- the East Union store (a favorite of many festival-goers);
- an 1888 one-room schoolhouse;
- and a general store and bookstore.
There's a lot more than that to do at this year's festival, which opens today, costs $7 for three days, and is free for children ages 12 and younger. For more information, go to scottcarverthreshers.org.
