If you live in Scott or Carver County,  you’ll pay $5 more next year to register your vehicle.

Both counties on Tuesday agreed to enact a $5 "wheelage tax" per vehicle.

Scott County would generate an estimated $470,000 in new revenues per year for transportation projects. Aside from transaction costs, it would get to keep all the revenue-- unlike the gasoline tax, which suburban officials say isn't distributed fairly.
