Scott County Offers FREE Water Testing July 26th!

On Thursday, July 26th, Scott County will partner with the MN Department of Agriculture to offer free well water testing for Nitrate contamination to Scott County residents. Simply bring a water sample to the Scott County government booth at the Scott County Fair, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Thursday, July 26th, as we celebrate “Scott County, Be Safe - Be Healthy” Day at the Fair!

When collecting your water sample, follow these simple instructions:
1. Let the water run for 3 minutes before taking the sample.

2. Use a permanent marker to label any type of plastic baggie or Ziplock™ bag with your name. If you want to remain anonymous, label the bag with a number or a code you will easily remember. A clean glass jar or Tupperware container can also be used if a plastic bag is not available. If you have more than one well, add an identifier to each sample: Example: Joe Swenson (home) Joe Swenson (barn)

3. Collect the water in a baggie or jar - only 1/2 cup is needed. Do this within 24 hours of arriving at the water testing clinic, and keep it refrigerated until you leave for the clinic. The water sample should be cool upon arrival.

4. If you have water treatment equipment installed (other than a softener), we recommend taking a sample “before” and “after” to determine if your system is working properly.

This is a great chance to check your drinking water for Nitrate contamination at no charge. Scott County Environmental Health urges you to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.
