The capstone to the former Jordan High School building, built in 1897, was discovered in the woods behind the current high school. The former school was located along Varner Street and was gutted by a fire in 1920. In the 87 years since the fire, the stone somehow found its way to the woods behind the new school, which wasn’t built until 2004.

The Jordan sandstone was discovered in three pieces, and district maintenance employees are hoping to repair the damage.
