An agreement to pay Kyle and Kathryn Thill $720 for 72 square feet of land, up to $500 for replacement landscaping, and the cost of the quit claim deed and paying any deed tax was approved by the Jordan City Council on Monday night.
The city needs to purchase land on all four corners of the intersection of highways 21 and 282 for the upcoming road construction project.
A memo written by City Attorney Annette Margarit said that the "highest and best use of at least one of the parcels at his busy intersection is as downtown commercial." That potential ups the value of the land.
An appraiser suggested a $10-per-square-foot price tag, despite the fact that the land is not commercial.
The city did not conduct an appraisal, because -- as Margarit said -- the cost of the appraisal would be more than the cost of the land.
