The number of building permits being taken out is down, compared to the 2006 number.

Eleven permits have been issued in Jordan in 2007, 15 behind last year, Finance Director Tom Nikunen told the city council on Monday. Last year, the city ended the year after issuing 58 permits. 

This year, the city is counting on a Sand Cos. housing development near the intersection of County Road 66 and Hope Avenue to make up some of the difference. The proposed development, which has met preliminary approval by the city, is scheduled to start construction in July and will require 46 new townhouse permits -- or, because of the lower home values, the equivalent of 35 single-family homes.
