The Jordan City Council passed the second reading of its water conservation ordinance.

Jordan residents are restricted by the odd-even law, which allows watering on even-numbered dates at homes with even-numbered addresses and watering on odd-numbered dates at homes with odd-numbered addresses.

Small revisions were made.

Residents are not allowed to use water outside between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., except to water flowers, shrubs, plants, and "new sod or seed." The ordinance defines new sod or seed as having been planted within 30 days.

And the city added the following statement: "Over seeding an established lawn is not considered new seed."

Police Chief Bob Malz asked for the change to be made. The first offense costs a resident $25.

A summary of the ordinance will be published.
