Rushing from the state tournament in St. Cloud, traffic made me late to the first game in Blaine, but for the second time this year, I trotted into the outfield in the middle of a game. My team had only three outfielders, and I after a quick inning, I was up to bat.
I have a new philosophy when it comes to slow-pitch softball: Forget about the team and just be selfish.
It's all about hits and runs and runs batted in for me now. I know that's bad, but I'm so sick of losing that I'm turning the focus onto myself.
In the two days, I hit 5-for-11, whacked a home run and a 300-foot double, pitched 14 innings with two complete games, and I made a couple of decent plays in the outfield. I had a sacrifice fly, as well as an error (booted grounder) in one game up north.
My St. Paul team won two games, but my Blaine team lost two.
I'm going to get my average up.
