The Minnesota governor’s residence opened to the public for tours yesterday.

This year, tours of the residence are held the last three Tuesdays of each month during June, July, and August.

“The residence belongs to the people of Minnesota,” Gov. Tim Pawlenty said. “The first lady and I invite Minnesotans to visit this marvelous place.”

According to a press release, the residence was originally designated as the State Ceremonial Building for official public use and as a governor’s residence in 1965, after it was donated to the state of Minnesota by the Horace Hills Irvine family.

“We are deeply grateful to the Irvine family,” First Lady Mary Pawlenty said. “Olivia Irvine Dodge has been so gracious to our state, generously giving Minnesota her family home that holds such precious memories.”

To schedule a group tour of 15 or more people, call 651-297-2161.

Tours run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., are free of charge, and are guided by the docents of the Minnesota Historical Society Women’s Organization. A photo ID is required for admittance.
