In softball, less hitting usually means less winning. No surprise there.
Hoggsbreath of the really far away Blaine league lost two games last Thursday. We're looking to rebound this week, though. Mark my words.
We got shut out in one game. No hitting, besides my near home run off the fence in left center. That was fun, because I'm not much for towering flies.
I was 3-for-6 in the doubleheader with one run scored and a whole lot scored on me. (I pitched both games.)
In my first at-bat during the second game, I was called out on what should've been a fielder's choice. Instead it was called a double play, when I had been past first base for at least 2 seconds, probably 3, by the time the first baseman got the ball. I didn't hear the call until a bunch of players and coaches told me, and I stood on the bag for a while in disbelief. "Are you kidding?" I screamed to my teammates, but the ump probably thought I was talking to him.
Not normally being one to rant, I decided to pick this as my passive-aggressive battle. When I got to the bench, I screamed expletives about the call, which is not my usual M.O.
I got what I deserved: No strike calls for the rest of the game. Serves me right.
I'm sure I'll take another beating this week, but the umpiring can only get better.
