A press release from the Taxpayers League of Minnesota:

ST. PAUL -- Fresh on the heels of Gov. Tim Pawlenty’s veto of the transportation bill, the Taxpayers League of Minnesota is launching a radio campaign opposing any increase in the state’s gas tax.

“We strongly support the governor’s position against tax increases and want all Minnesotans to know we support the governor,” said Phil Krinkie, president of the Taxpayers League of Minnesota.

The 30-second ad, which starts running today around the state, asks listeners to call Pawlenty and thank him for vetoing the gas tax bill. With more than $5 billion in tax and fee increases the bill would place an undue burden on Minnesota taxpayers. That additional tax burden would cost the average family up to $500 per year.

“So far, Minnesota taxpayers have had a run of good luck with the governor vetoing the runaway tax-and-spend legislation passed by the liberals,” Krinkie continued. “Hopefully he will continue to stand strong. Who knows if House and Senate leaders will come to their senses? Clearly, their message of tax, tax, tax, spend, spend, spend hasn’t swayed Governor Pawlenty -- and it certainly hasn’t resonated with Minnesotans.”
