The Jordan School Board voted at its March 12 meeting to approve the school calendar for the 2007-2008 school year. The calendar included a few interesting changes, and sparked a discussion about the possibility of doing away with spring break.
Joe Benko appreciated that Easter and spring breaks were included in one vacation period. Benko also brought up the idea of doing away with spring break altogether.
"I think we need to discuss that sometime," he said.
He said some people would rather have school that week and get out a week earlier in the summer.
Superintendent Larry Kauzlarich said other districts in the area are without spring breaks, including Montgomery-Lonsdale.
The calendar also includes two teacher workshop days in early November coinciding with the state volleyball tournament. Kauzlarich said the school normally takes two days off around that time, which is near the end of the first quarter, and he just moved those days to coincide with the tournament in hopes that students would have a reason to be out of school those two days.
