Radermacher's SuperValu's proposal for a sign that increases its signage by 36.3 square feet was denied by the Jordan City Council tonight.
The grocery store's signs measure 539.25 square feet, already grandfathered in above the city's maximum of 400 square feet. But Steve Radermacher applied for a variance to be able to put up more signs for a total of 575.55 square feet.
City officials agreed to research the issue, checking into what rules other area cities employ in regard to business' signs.
The council, including Radermacher's employee Jeanne Marnoff, voted 4-0 against an increase in signage. Later in the meeting, after Councilmember Barry Ullmann showed up, the council rescinded the earlier decision and took another vote, so Marnoff could abstain and avoid any potential conflict of interest. The motion to deny passed again 4-0.
Jeremy Goebel and Sally Schultz were absent from the meeting.
