Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty joined 34 other governors in sending a letter urging Congress to reconsider cutting funding for the low income home energy assistance program (LIHEAP), which provides heating and cooling assistance to low income households.
The continuing resolution for fiscal year 2007 cut LIHEAP funding by $2.16 billion, and the president’s proposed FY2008 budget would cut an additional $1.78 billion from LIHEAP.
The governors asked Congressional leaders to restore LIHEAP’s funding to the 2006 baseline of $3.2 billion, according to a press release from Pawlenty's office.
