The group finds its name from the NBC show "The Biggest Loser." (You can find out more about the NBC show by visiting its Web site at http://www.nbc.com/The_Biggest_Loser). Share your tips with and get advice from other Jordan readers trying to lose weight or just live a healthy lifestyle.
This week, my six food groups consisted of:
- midnight snacks;
- ballpark weinies and meat on the grill;
- potatoes and pasta (not together, but they both have carbs);
- sandwiches (preferably chicken salad);
- delicious restaurant fare;
- and Jell-O.
Mmmmm! Good eating this week. I'm not sure that it'll help my weight much, but a heavier me might pack more punch on the softball field. Who knows?
Man, I feel old.
I never remember my dreams unless they are really good, really bad, or important enough to tell someone. So that's why I'm telling you about this one.
One day last week, I woke up excited about an exceptional interest rate that I got. That makes me feel old, because interest rates really do lack excitement, even more so for a young person.
Other things that I've realized that make me feel old:
- Four years ago, I messed up my checkbook to the tune of having an extra $1,000. My only purchase: a lawnmower.
Working out isn't really a struggle for me anymore. It's a daily habit.
Since I joined Anytime Fitness in Jordan, I switched from weightlifting, basketball, and situps to doing all of that plus the elliptical. I've been losing weight and feeling better than before. I knew I would.
But I didn't really know how well I was doing until, during Celebrate Jordan, Jo Erp of Jo's Gym in Jordan gave me the results of a body composition analysis.
Flipping through channels while doing the elliptical this morning at the gym, I happened upon the opening-day baseball game.
And my favorite player, David Ortiz, was up to bat. What luck!
It was a nice surprise, since I hadn't remembered that today was opening day for the Boston Red Sox and Oakland Athletics in Japan. Daisuke Matsuzaka and the Red Sox were losing 2-0 to Joe Blanton and the A's when I was off to do sit-ups and wrist curls.
... intense workout today, huh? Well, I have lost 10 pounds or so in the last month.
I heard this on the radio last week: "There's a reason you're fat -- you want to be."
Scott County Public Health recently ran a children's poster contest focused on maintaining a healthy weight.
Hard-working, fun-loving staff writer Brandon Otte and I have had an ongoing discussion (read: stubborn disagreement) about hotdish. He says it's casserole. We need your help to decide.

Meg Jeffery's sister, Erin O'Brien-Denton, made a series of exercise videos revolving around pregnancy -- prenatal and postnatal.
I ate breakfast today. This isn’t exactly earth-shattering news, I know, but it marks a big change for me.
I usually eat about one meal a day, and it ends up being much too large a meal. My family and I decided to start a "Biggest Loser" competition – where the person who loses the most weight in 2007 is the big winner. (You can read about a Shakopee resident who was part of NBC's "The Biggest Loser" reality show in the Jan. 4 edition of the Shakopee Valley News). The competition started in January, and my goal is to drop about 50 pounds by the end of the year. I intend to win whatever it is my sister and I come up with as our top prize. I also intend to win some of the monthly gift certificate prizes.
