Combined team finishes third

In a different kind of meet, the boys and girls on Jordan’s track team teamed up to finish third at the Jordan co-ed track meet on Tuesday, April 29.

Jordan finished with 70 points. Belle Plaine won the meet with 102 points. Le Sueur-Henderson was second with 100 points.

“It was a fun afternoon. I always like this meet,” head coach Gene Adams said.

Jordan came away with two first place finishes and numerous other personal best performances.

In the distance medley relay, Cameron Boy, Ashley Hartman, Yuriy Malashenko and Elle Case teamed up to run a 9 minutes 14.73 seconds to win the race.

The only other first-place finish for Jordan cam in the long jump where Boy, David Giancola, Rachel Allison and Audrey Fricke teamed up to jump a combined 66-2.5 feet.

The team did quite well in the field events as they also finished second in the shot put and discus.

In the shot put, Tyler Morluck, Leah Dietel, Blake Hill and Kelsey Lambrecht teamed up for second place. Morluck, Dietel, Anthony Hull and Lambrecht finished second in the discus with a combined distance of 367-1.5 feet.

“Leah had a memorable night,” Adams said. “Not only did she throw her personal best in the shot put, she brok the school record in the event. Her throw of 36 feet 2.5 inches broke the 2002 record of 25 feet eight inches set by Kelli Crimi.”

With the new record for Dietel, she now holds five track and field records at Jordan High School.

In the 1,600 meter relay, Giancola, Case, Boy and Hartman ran a 3:59.27 to finish in second place

Pedro Velasco, Bryan Kes, Kelsey Chambers and Michaela Vogel teamed up to run a 22:24 in the 6,400 meter relay. That put them in second place.

Other top finishes for Jordan came in the 3,200 meter relay, the shuttle hurdle relay, 300 meter relay and the throwers 400 meter relay.

They finished third in all four events.

Giancola had a personal best jump of 6 feet in the high jump. That along with jumps from Malashenko, Hartman and Caitie McBride gave Jordan first place.
