The wait is over for the project to expand and renovate Jordan's only fire hall.
Seventeen construction companies bid for the right to do the work, and Gopher State Contractors Inc. was the deemed the low bidder at less than $1.3 million. Other fees, including financing, will bring the total cost to slightly more than $1.8 million.
With its A3 bond rating, the city garnered a favorable interest rate, as well.
Earlier, Kathy Aho of Springsted had estimated that Jordan would get an interest rate of 4.5 percent. After four bids were opened today, the lowest rate was 4.04 percent, resulting in a debt service levy of $132,000 a year, Aho said.
"Wonderful," Mayor Ron Jabs said. "Thank you. That's excellent news."
The city council voted to issue $2 million general obligation capital improvement bonds to cover the cost of the 9,041-square-foot addition, as well as a remodeling job on an existing building of almost 7,000 square feet.
Construction is a nine- to 12-month, two-phase process.
