Tour of a bell tower

» Read similar stories filed under:

With the permission of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jordan, I gave myself a self-tour of the historic building's tower. It's five stories high with three bells. Years ago, the brothers stood in the entryway of the church, pulling with all their might, as parishioners flooded into each mass. For a few years, the bells have been fully electronic, but a recent project much improved them and ensured that they will ring throughout each day.

See my photos of the bell tower here: http://www.jordannews.com/news/church/church-bells-ring-again-slideshow-....

I wish there was some more info on what's posted on the bulletin board up there. Any ideas what the articles and pictures are?

Mathias, so doesn’t that kind of make you the dingbat in the belfry?

Sorry, I couldn’t resist. LOL

Honestly, Thank You... I have always wondered what it looked like up there. I have lived here all my life and never got the chance, now I can see what it looks like... Can we send you other places too? I think there are places people have been curious about and never had the opportunity to see... you could be there eyes... how about it? Well maybe you might want to get an intern in case there are things no normal person in their right mind would do.

Elkes, you saw their photo's too didn't you. As much as I appreciated our editor risking life and limb with his camera, the photo spread was shall we say, "appreciated even more". Check the picture area. It's certainly worth the time negotiating around that annoying pop up.

The photos are much clearer... However now my daughter would like to know why nobody cleaned and polished the bells because “they look kind of dirty” (chuckle) for beyond a century old, they look like they are doing quite well.

And yes Kyle, that pop up is a bit annoying, but I understand the evils of being in the advertisement business and the need to increase revenue. I do however sway away from most pages that do that.

About the church bell photos, I agree. To clearly see what these bells look like, you've got to look at the photos. Here's the link: http://jordannews.com/news/church/church-bells-ring-again-slideshow-112.
