As expected, Steve Sarvi, a Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party-endorsed candidate from Victoria, filed for office in Minnesota's Second Congressional District, which includes Jordan. Sarvi filed today, according to the Minnesota secretary of state's Web site. He will run against U.S. Rep. John Kline, who filed on July 2 for re-election. Kline is a Republican who was elected in 2002 and is serving his third term in Congress.

Otherwise, little has changed today in the races for other governmental positions representing the city of Jordan or Helena, Sand Creek, St. Lawrence, or Spring Lake townships, according the secretary of state’s Web site. Here’s where we’re at:

- Tom Wolf of Savage and Chris Olson of Spring Lake Township filed for election to a Scott County Board seat that will be left vacant by Commissioner Bob Vogel. Commissioner District 2 includes Spring Lake Township. Vogel, the chairman of the board, announced his intention not to run for re-election. Wolf lost to Vogel in the last election for the District 2 seat. To see the story about Vogel, go to www.jordannews.com/news/county-politics/vogel-not-seek-re-election-8079.

-Taylor Kristoffe-Jones, DFL-Savage, will run again for the House District 35B seat held by state Rep. Mark Buesgens, R-Jordan. Kristoffe-Jones, who filed for the election on July 1, lost to Buesgens in the election two years ago. Buesgens has not yet filed for re-election, according to the Minnesota secretary of state’s Web site.

- In House District 25B, which includes Helena Township, a three-term mayor and longtime councilmember of Lonsdale filed to run against state Rep. David Bly, DFL-Northfield. Tim Rud, a Republican, filed for election on July 8. Bly, who has served one two-year term in office, filed for re-election on July 1.

- On July 11, Marcia Krueger of Norwood-Young America filed to run against state Rep. Paul Kohls in the race to represent House of Representatives District 34A, which includes St. Lawrence Township. Two years ago, Krueger, a DFLer, lost in an election to Kohls, R-Victoria, who filed for re-election on July 8, was elected in 2002, and is serving his third term in office.

-No candidates have filed yet for three local Scott Soil and Water Conservation District seats, according to the Minnesota secretary of state’s Web site.

The filing period runs through July 15 for candidates to file for upcoming state and county elections. For more information on state and county candidates, go to www.sos.state.mn.us/home/index.asp?page=136. Candidates can withdraw from the election by July 17.

For three seats on the Jordan City Council that are up for election this November, the filing period runs from Aug. 26 to Sept. 9. Call 952-492-2535 for more information about the city election.
