On Wednesday, two more candidates filed for election to Jordan's mayoral office, expanding the race to a field of three. And yesterday, a second candidate joined the city council race.
Mayor Ron Jabs will be challenged by Daniel Elke and Pete Ewals. Ewals and Jabs filed for office on Wednesday, and Elke filed on Tuesday, the first day of the filing period.
As of Thursday afternoon, Thomas V. Boncher and incumbent Sally Schultz were the only candidates for other three seats on the Jordan City Council.
The seats held by Jabs and fellow city councilmembers Schultz, Mike Shaw, and Barry Ullmann are up for election this November. Ullmann is not running for office. Shaw is expected to run, but he had yet to file as of yesterday.
The upcoming terms for mayoral and council seats would run from January 2009 to December 2012. All of the elected city officials represent the city at large.
The filing period began Aug. 26 and runs through Sept. 9. For more information, call 952-492-2535 or go to the city hall, 201 First St. E. in downtown Jordan.
