A notice from Helene Schmitt, one of the organizers of the local farmers market:

Are you as ready for spring as we are?

By “we,” I’m referring to the vendors at the farmers market, going into our third year. We will again be located near the intersection of highways 21 and 282 in the former St. John the Baptist Catholic School parking lot.

We will be starting earlier this year, running from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays, June 21 through October 25.

Our goal is to have earlier garden produce available, such as radishes, onions, lettuce, spinach, peapods, et cetera. (That is, if Mother Nature cooperates!) Doesn’t your mouth water just thinking about them!?

Last year, you could find kohlrabi, beets, a variety of summer squash, peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, berries, and eggplant, followed by sweet corn, cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli, apples, squash, and pumpkins.

Some other items offered were handmade clothing, craft items, jams and jellies, home-baked goodies, plants, some woodworking, and fresh flowers.

We invite everyone to come and check out your local farmers market. We plan to offer some sort of specials or incentives. Please watch for flyers or notices in the Jordan Independent.

If you are interested in being a vendor, we’d love to have you join us. The vendor fee is $60 for 19 weeks or $10 per Saturday. There’s no obligation to a full commitment.
