Parade

10 a.m.

Those marching in the parade should assemble at St. John’s parking lot to line up. The Memorial Day parade route leaves St. John’s, headed south on Broadway Street to Water Street. It turns west on Water Street and continues to the Varner Street bridge. From the Varner Street bridge, marchers must furnish their own transportation to Spirit Hill Cemetery. The parade order begins with the Jordan Police Department, followed by the Jordan Honor Guard, the Jordan Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and program officials, Jordan royalty, the high school band, the Jordan Fire Department, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Lutheran Pioneers, and schoolchildren. Any schoolchildren who march in the parade will receive a flag compliments of VFW Post No. 2854 and its auxiliary.

Alternative plan: In case of rain, exercises will be held in the Jordan High School at 10 a.m.

The log cabin, which is located along Varner Street, between First and Water streets, will be open following the program.

A group from Hope Lutheran Church will be placing flags on veterans’ graves at all three cemeteries Saturday, May 24. Extra flags will be placed by the flagpole in case someone was inadvertently missed.

R. W. Johnson - The Jordan Community, the Veterans who have and are serving their Country and those who participate in, plan and organize these Services are to be commended for their devotion to country demonstrated so well on this Memorial Day. Not all communities can/will/do put forth the effort and not all communities enjoy such wide participation year after year. If you consider the services, the many who participate and the Community Support you will recognize that on this day each year, Jordan is the tallest boy in the class. Appropriate respect is shown those who have and are serving their country by Citizen and verteran alike. Thank You, Jordan.

Those attending the Memorial Day services were not disappointed by the speakers, the JHS Band nor the weather. I for one, was delighted with the program and the bueatiful weather (sometimes we fall a bit short on that). Amazing was the large turnout by Fire Department and Veterans. They do their duty, often with few thanks and less praise. As I said before, and it bears repeating, When it comes to the Memorial Day Services, Jordan is the 'tallest boy in the class'. On this day, I also consumed enough Pekarna Sausage to provide lunch for the entire Army for one day. (Well maybe, with restricted 'seconds'). Well done Jordan.
