The hunt begins. Here is the first clue leading to the Heimatfest medallion:
Not much is new this year, I fear.
You do know all the rules,
Unless you’re new to us ‘round here.
And none of you are fools.
The same applies as years of yore:
Don’t hunt on private ground.
Be on public space before
The sparkling gold is found.
I promise not to dig in deep,
Nor hang it up too high.
As for the clues, read ‘em and weep.
You’ll shake your heads and sigh.
Cluemeister has retired now.
Has lots of time to write
More devious new clues – and how!
You won’t know left from right.
Jordan resident and Cluemeister Marilyn Landela writes the clues for the annual medallion hunt, which will run in the Thursday editions of the Jordan Independent until the medallion is found.
The clues are also available:
+ at midnight on Thursdays on your local newspaper’s Web site, www.jordannews.com;
+ at the Jordan Area Chamber of Commerce office, 315 Broadway St.;
+ and on cable access channel 14.
If you find the medallion, please bring it to the Jordan city hall, 210 E. First St., to receive your $75 reward in Jordan bucks, and call the Independent at 952-492-2224 so your local newspaper can let everyone know who found it.
Heimatfest festivities are scheduled for Sept. 5-6. The Miss Jordan pageant will take place Sept. 3, and the coronation is set for Sept. 6.

Now I’ve heard people say...
Back to page topNow I’ve heard people say that the first clues in these medallion hunt things are all pretty basic and don’t offer much insight. But if I were writing a clue, I’d throw some tiny tips in the first one, when not many people were looking. Here’s my guesses at key words and phrases from the first clue: “‘round here,” “You won’t know left from right.” To me, those both signify circles or some other round place. I could be way off, though.
