Court orders Klaseus to refrain from possessing firearms (and other happenings in and around Belle Plaine)

Here's what's been going on in and around Belle Plaine lately, according to the Belle Plaine Herald:

- The Sibley County District Court released Anthony Klaseus on his own recognizance last week, after his first appearance in the accidental shooting of his son, Hunter, in Faxon Township, near Belle Plaine. He is charged with second-degree manslaughter, reckless discharge of a firearm, trespassing, and hunting without a permit. A judge ordered Klaseus, who allegedly had traces of alcohol and marijuana in his system when he mistook his son for a turkey and killed the boy in April, to refrain from using drugs and alcohol and from possessing firearms.

- Nathan Maresch, an Iraq war veteran from Belle Plaine, spoke at Veterans Park on Memorial Day.

- "Approximately 101" seniors graduated from Belle Plaine High School, the Herald said.

- The Belle Plaine Chamber of Commerce is scheduled to hold its fifth annual fund-raiser golf tournament at Valley View Golf Course on June 11. For more information, call 952-873-4295.

- Angela Kalal's Belle Plaine Tigers softball team played well in the section tournament, winning its first game 18-6. The No. 2 seed beat the Tigers 5-2, and then Belle Plaine lost a heartbreaker 3-2. "Congrats to our players for peaking at the right time," coach Kalal told the Herald.

- Katie Cates is the the new Miss German Day, while Keshia Bruns was first princess and Katie Kurtz second princess. Belle Plaine celebrated German Day on May 18.

- Some farmers say that the wet, cool spring has them playing catchup. Richard Koenig of Belle Plaine Township told the Herald that he is about three weeks behind schedule.

- CapX 2020, which is considering a power-line river crossing between Belle Plaine and Le Sueur, hosted public work group meetings in regard to the issue.

- Kayla Koepp of Belle Plaine High School took the Minnesota River Conference most valuable player award for golf. She won the award last year, as well.

- For the fourth straight year, Belle Plaine finished first in the conference in track and field.
