Here is a brief synopsis:
What is a “raingarden,” you ask? Well, raingardens are just as they sound like -- attractive gardens that
capture rainwater, allow the water to soak into the soil rather than running off, and help keep pollutants
from being washed into the stormdrains (which run into our lakes and streams). Many of the native
plants used in raingardens have deep roots that help water move down through soil, even clayey soil,
and these native plants don’t need fertilizers, pesticides, or additional water from irrigation.
Interested? Want to learn more? The Scott Watershed Management Organization is hosting three
Raingarden Workshops in April and May that teaches homeowners how to design and install a rain
garden using native plants.
