To celebrate the July 4th holiday, the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community invites the public to a free fireworks display.

For the 13th year in a row, the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community is sponsoring an elaborate fireworks display at its Pow Wow Grounds in Shakopee. The fireworks will go on, rain or shine, unless there is severe weather. The display is put on by the SMSC Public Works Department.

Show time is 10:00 p.m.

The Pow Wow Grounds are located along Dakotah Parkway, just south of County Road 42 between county roads 83 and 17.

The fireworks can also be seen from various locations on the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, including Mystic Lake Casino Hotel, Playworks, and Dakotah! Sport and Fitness parking lots.

On Saturday, August 18, 2007, at 10:00 p.m. fireworks will again be set off in honor of the Annual SMSC Wacipi (pronounced wah-chee-pee, meaning "Pow Wow").

About the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community
The SMSC utilizes its financial resources from gaming and non-gaming enterprises to pay for all of the internal infrastructure of the tribe, including but not limited to housing, roads, water and sewer systems, emergency services, and essential services to its Tribal members in education, health, and welfare. The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community has a charitable giving program which comes from a cultural and social tradition to assist those in need. Over the past several years the SMSC has donated more than $75 million to charitable organizations and Indian Tribes, including more than $18 million in fiscal year 2006. The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, a federally recognized Indian Tribe in Minnesota, is the owner and operator of Mystic Lake Casino Hotel, Little Six Casino, Playworks, Dakotah! Sport and Fitness, The Meadows at Mystic Lake Golf Course, and other enterprises on a reservation south of the Twin Cities.
