225 Water Street Creative Arts & Holding Company is looking for the next best “Trash-formation” artist. The contest is open to found object artists (10-100) that want to express their creative abilities using reclaimed materials. There is no fee to enter.

Art Specifications:
1. Materials that would otherwise be trash.
2. Media of your choice that conveys the 3R's, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

Judging Criteria:
1. Use of Recycled Materials.
2. Creativity & Functionality.
3. Originality.
4. Level of Effort

The Hillstrom Museum of Art at Gustavus Adolphus
College in St. Peter will present "Permanent? Senior Show 2008," an
exhibition featuring the work of 12 senior studio art majors at the
college. The show will be on display from Saturday, May 3, through
Sunday, June 1, with an opening reception scheduled for 4 p.m. to 7
p.m. May 3.

This exhibition is a culminating event in the studio
art major’s curriculum and a required component of the major. On
display are works by:

Stephanie Buresh, Jordan

Danny Blacker, Apple Valley

Scott County celebrates Minnesota’s Sesquicentennial with a special event Saturday at Murphy’s Landing in Shakopee.

Along with a day full of activities, there will be a special re-enactment of the Lincoln-Douglas debate of 1858.

Abraham Lincoln and Judge Stephen Douglas are actually performers Taber Akin and David Woodard – former Historic Fort Snelling staff.

The debate takes place at 1 p.m. Admission to The Landing that day is free.

The Jordan Fire Department is marking its 125th anniversary this year with a citywide celebration.

A parade through downtown Jordan begins at 1 p.m.  

Following that will be firefighter competitions, a fire truck display, games for children, and music from Zuhrah Pipes and Drums and the St. Peter Govenaires Drum Corps. From 8 p.m. to midnight, Bobby Vee will perform.

Activities after the parade will be held at the fire station, 501 Varner St., and food and beverages will be sold throughout the day.
