It's Girl Scout Cookie time again! Beginning Saturday, January 19, the Jordan Girl Scouts will be taking orders for Girl Scout Cookies. New this year are Lemon Chalet Creams (a lemon sandwich cookie) and Sugar Free Chocolate Chips (a sugar free chocolate chip cookie that doesn't taste sugar free). The old favorites (Thin Mints, Trefoils, Samoas, Do-Si-Dos, Tagalongs and All Abouts) are back as well. Not only do cookie sales allow troops to raise money to support their activities, it gives girls the opportunity to set goals, develop self-confidence and build self-esteem. Start: 5:00 pm

The Scott West wrestling team doesn't get the chance to wrestle near home very often in a season. Tonight, they have to travel again. They aren't close to home, but they aren't far either. The Panthers are taking part in a triangular tonight at New Prague. The teams will be Scott West, New Prague and Windom. The meet starts at 5 p.m. with New Prague and Windom facing each other. The DFL, Republican and Independence Parties will hold precinct caucuses 7 p.m. Feb. 5. Attend to make resolutions to party platforms and select delegates for candidate endorsing conventions. The DFL and Republican parties will also hold presidential preference polls. We weren't able to obtain meeting spots for all caucuses. Rep. David Bly announced today that he will lead a statewide health care reform tour to discuss our broken health care system and unveil solutions to address the current health care crisis. The three-day statewide tour will begin on Thursday, February 7th in Duluth and conclude on Saturday, February 9th in Northfield. At town hall meetings across the state, legislators will discuss their health care reform proposal, the Minnesota Health Act, and efforts to move Minnesota closer to universal health care coverage. The Minnesota Deer Hunters Association of Scott and Carver Counties will hold its annual banquet Feb. 9. The event begins with a social hour at 5 p.m. at the Shakopee Ballroom and Banquet Center. Tickets cost $25 for adults and $15 for children ages 16 and younger. Proceeds from the event will be used for education, deer habitat improvement, and the archery range. It's Tubby Time! Minnesota Gophers basketball coach Tubby Smith headlines a fund-raiser for the New Prague High School varsity basketball coach at the Ridges of Sand Creek golf club on Saturday, Feb. 23. The coach, Jeff Gravon, has been battling cancer for 17 years. Last summer, the cancer reoccurred. At 5 p.m., a reception begins with a silent auction. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m., followed by guest speaker Smith. Tickets cost $35. The golf club is located at 21775 Ridges Dr. in Sand Creek Township. | ||
